Upstairs Full Bath

It’s been a while since I posted any photos of the progress on our house- well that’s because there wasn’t much progress the 2nd half of last year!  I have recently painted and hung some artwork in the upstairs bath.  This is our only full bath so we use it every day.  It came with floor to ceiling mirrors circa 1988 to the left of the vanity and a weird placement for a medicine to the right of the vanity that I never put anything in because it was so dirty.  When we moved in the tub was black- not joking.  Chris scrubbed and scrubbed and bleached that thing and it’s still not totally shinny white, but it’s at least clean and you don’t mind standing in there with bare feet!  So Chris removed the 2 floor to ceiling mirrors, and the medicine cabinet, patched the walls and then I painted.  If you look at the photos you may think OH WOW they have circa 1950’s tile how cool.  Not so- it’s from the 80’s and has grey flecks in it so I decided to paint the walls grey and then accessorize with color.  Before it was just all dingy dirty white and now at least there is some color on the walls and it looks 1000 times better than when we bought the place.  Just cleaning it made it look nicer, then we changed the knobs on the vanity to some left over ones we had and it looked even better.  Removing the floor to ceiling mirrors brought it out of the 80’s and livable for a while since we can’t afford to buy new tile right now.

Things I would still like to do:

  • Frame the mirror over the vanity with trim molding so it looks more built in
  • buy a new bath rug for the tub(as you can see this one has a bleach stain) and a matching one for near the sink
  • buy a shower curtain!  That is just a liner.  I can’t find one that I like that is not too expensive…..
  • Paint the inside of the ceiling lights over the vanity white
  • Paint the door.  The door weighs over 100 pounds and is solid wood!  I was going to try and take it off the hinges and paint it outside but I may just do it in place.

I can’t find my before photos and I remember not taking many because it was so dirty!  Also everything was a different shade of white or cream, which just made the whole room look dingy.

So onto the after photos:

View from the hall looking in.  That is my Venice Carnevale poster from when I studied abroad in Italy- that was so cool to see!  All the people dressed in those amazing costumes, very beautiful.  I think I want to take some of the colors from the poster and match the shower curtain and new bath rugs to that.

The knobs on the vanity were this ugly gold color when we moved in- new knobs and a good scrub and it looks pretty good:)  Also we just replaced the light switches and they are now white, not tan.  This whole house is a work in progress, and there is always something to do:)
