One Step Closer

This past Friday I took one step closer to my goal of becoming a full time photographer!  Yay I am soooo excited for this!  One of my goals for this year was to be happier in what I do every day and make more time for my photography business, I guess that’s technically 2 goals.  If you do not know I still work full time Monday- Friday commuting over an hour each way into NYC on the good old NJ Transit train system.  Friday I gave 60 days notice at my current job and I couldn’t be happier.  Yes I am nervous, yes I am scared, yes this will be hard on us financially, but the end result will be so worth it.  I needed to make a change for the better.  I was unhappy in my current job for a number of reasons.  I felt uncreative and at a loss.  Most of us spend 8 hours a day at work, and consistently being unhappy for those 8 hours really brings down everything else in other areas of your life.

I am still going to work part time or freelance in the fashion industry as a graphic designer 3-4 days per week.  This will allow for 2 things:  1) a fairly steady pay check with some money coming in and 2) at least one if not 2 more days in the week to dedicate to my photography.  It’s been really, really tough having essentially 2 full time jobs and working 7 days a week for well over a year.   I feel run down and out of energy.  Something had to change.  Chris is also working weekends now so at least with my crazy work schedule I haven’t taken too much time away from us and we schedule in family visits or weeknight dinners with friends about once a month.

I am happy to share this news with you all and hoping that you can cheer me on though these scary but positive changes for me and my business.  Sometimes it’s better to leap into the unknown than stay in that unhealthy rut.  You will never know what you were missing if you don’t try, right?  Change is good.  I took that leap.  Mom and Dad- don’t freak out:)

This photo was taken at the MJ 2day workshop and I look so happy because I was doing something I’m passionate about!  You’ve gotta love life.
