Ireland, Oh how I miss you

It’s been almost 2 years now since we traveled to Ireland, 2 years!  What, where does the time go.  In honor of St. Patrick’s day I thought I would blog about our trip there since it was before my blogging days.  I wish I had my 5D markii then, but that means I will just have to go back!

We flew into Shannon and traveled all over the west coast of Ireland- drove over 1000 kilometers, and I wouldn’t do it any other way.  It was a bit tricky with driving on the other side of the road there.  We rented an automatic, which we debated over since we both drive stick, but in the end it was the best choice.  Getting used to driving on the other side of the road is hard enough, much less sitting on the other side of the car and then having to shift with your other hand- too much.

We arrived at like 6 am Sunday morning and drove to Dingle.  Dingle was my favorite, I think, of all the places we went.  Small town, beautiful landscape, friendly people, Guinness, good food, live music- can’t get much better.  Chris wants to move there.  Actually I’ve noticed that wherever we travel Chris wants to move there- ha!

Some wind surfers out in the water-the water was freezing cold and very windy!  Full hooded wetsuit required.

Got to wear my wellies and splash around in the water- super fun!

Another Guinness?  Don’t mind if I do.

We drove around the Ring of Kerry and then on to Kinsale.  This was the only time it rained- we were super lucky with the weather.  Very foggy drive over the top of this mountain pass.

Yes I do wear glasses to see far away, especially reading road signs or for night driving.  Usually I take them off when I don’t need them so I’m not sure why there are still on here?

Kinsale is on the Southern coast and has some of the most beautifully colored painted homes ever.

Of course we had to stop at the Desmond Castle– it was used as a prison back in the day  but is now a museum.  It was fun to visit and say we have a family castle- ha!  Too bad we aren’t royalty.

Tide was out and of course Chris had to climb down.

The Cliffs of Mohr have to be one of the most amazing sites I’ve ever seen.  The height of these cliffs is unreal and totally remind me of the Princess Bride- my favorite movie ever:)

For perspective- those little black and red dots to the left of center are people.  These cliffs were HUGE!  Next time I would love to take the boat tour.

It was so, so windy on the top!  They recently installed that wall, I guess to many people got too close to the edge.  There were signs all over for a suicide helpline phone number.

Great lighting on the water- so beautiful.

If you have any questions about our trip or need some recommendations shoot me an email and I would love to help.

Go and enjoy a Guinness:)  Slainte!
