MJ 2day Workshop

It’s been a whirlwind of a year so far for me!  Vermont over new years, sick for like 10 days, Phoenix for 5 days and 2 sessions this weekend.  Whew I’m busy.

The MJ 2-day workshop in Phoenix was amazing!  Melissa taught us everything from shooting techniques, lighting, interacting with clients, post processing, workflow, pricing, album design & sales, website, branding, social media, blogging, networking, & getting published.  This list could go on.  You can read Melissa’s re-cap here.  She shared with us I think everything she knows in an easy to understand way.  I filled my brain with tons and tons of ideas on where I want my business to go and what steps I’m going to use to  get there.  It will take me some time to implement all the ideas I have into my business but slowly I will make it there.  At the end of the workshop Melissa said I was the quite one- that’s because I was absorbing it all in and the wheels were turning in my brain so I didn’t have time to talk!

One of the major goals I want to accomplish this year in my business is booking and shooting more weddings!  So if you or anyone you know is engaged give me a ring:)  I updated my facebook page and session info/pricing pages already.  Next up is to update the photos at the top of this blogsite header.  Plus this spring I am going to work on designing a website in addition to having this blogsite.  Lots and lots to work on:)  If you are a photographer I would highly recommend this workshop, all of the photographers that attended were at different levels in their businesses and I think everyone learned something new and valuable to take away from the workshop to use in their businesses.  It’s also a great opportunity to meet other people from around the country that you can talk to and ask their opinions on ideas you have and just to talk about all things photography:)

Back to the workshop. On the first day Melissa set up a mock engagement session for us all.  Stephanie Fay and her husband were models.  And they are gorgeous!  Here we are in Melissa’s backyard which says you can shoot anywhere and get great images as long as the light is right:)

Melissa working with the models, explaining posing and talking to each couple to get the images you want to get.

In the alley behind her house- I love this one!

The fruit trees were beautiful out there- these grapefruit look almost fake!

Melissa explained how to get this star burst effect:

Everyone practicing in the amazing afternoon light!

We moved on to Melissa’s neighbors house for these last few:

This next one is my favorite of the workshop & don’t you just want to take the orange chair home?  Yes please!

Thank you so much Melissa!  I am grateful to get to attend your workshop and meet you in person.  Here’s to a great start to 2011!
