The 3 Best Times to Take Professional Photos of Your Infant During Their First Year

Obviously I LOVE photography and taking photos of your little ones as well as my own! You may think that I bust out my “professional” camera everyday to document our lives. Well I don’t! I use my iphone which is usually the camera that is most readily available. I am doing a weekly photo series of Ryland on the rug in her room just as I did with Logan with my “good” camera but everything else is taken with my phone! Yet there are 3 times within the first year of life that I love to document with my professional camera or hire someone to take those images for me and my family and I think you should too.

Of course you want to capture the everyday moments with your own camera and your phone but I think these 3 milestones within the first year are the best times to have professional photos taken of your little one!

Newborn: Within 10 days of birth because they are brand new, everything is so new to you even if it’s your third baby and you will not remember it all(trust me!). So it’s best to document those first fleeting moments as new parents with your little one. They grow so quickly that you will not believe how little he or she actually was! I’ve hired photographers to come and document both of our daughters right after they were born and I’m so thankful to have those memories to look back on post baby weight and all!

Sitting Up: The world is so new to them and sitting up all on their own is the best thing in the world! Yippee! It’s a great time for professional photographs because your little one shows all of their personality while not being able to move far if at all. My heart melts at these types of sessions! Babies are so cute at this age which is anywhere from 6-8 months old.

First Birthday: Their first milestone birthday should be captured professionally whether in a family portrait session or at the big party! From cake smash, toothy smiles, standing or walking to having all of your family and friends in one place; it’s a big, fun-filled party for everyone but especially for your little one. Plus you want to remember it all and what better way to do that then to relax and enjoy yourself while having me there capture it all from details and portraits to candids of your little one!

Here are some photos of my little baby Ryland at 6.5 months- gah she is getting so big!! Now if she would just sleep through the night we may both survive this first year! She is cute so we won’t talk about her sleep habits too much! 🙂
